Bull Mastiff Breeders
With the popularity of the Bull Mastiff growing so rapidly, so does the number of Bull Mastiff Breeders. In this situation, we have to be much more careful in choosing breeders to purchase puppies from. It takes a little bit of knowledge to distinguish between a true breeder and a backyard breeder and avoid buying dogs from the latter. Backyard breeders are also referred to as “puppy mills” because they maintain a kind of “puppy production line”, which is very detrimental to the quality of the “product”.
Conscientious and experienced Bull mastiff Breeders do not breed for profit. They never deal in more than one or two breeds, and their main goal is maintaining health in their dogs and boosting their genetic makeup. Therefore, they are extremely scrupulous in selecting the best species from the breeding stock, and they do not admit dogs with undesirable physical or behavioral traits to breeding programs.
Bull Mastiff Breeders have been following a long and rocky road toward making the dog into the dog it is today. Bull Mastiffs were bred in England, and they were to protect estate lands against poachers, assassins and thieves. It should be noted, that they were not supposed to be vicious. Estate owners needed an intelligent, strong and restrained dog, which would be able to catch poachers without biting hard on them. Bull Mastiffs are very large and powerful dogs, and their weight permitted them to pin intruders to the ground and hold them until the master arrived.
Bull Mastiffs resulted from crossing of the Olde English Bulldogge and the English Mastiff. Bull Mastiff Breeders strove to preserve in their dogs the agility and velocity of the Bulldog and the strength and endurance of the Mastiff. Bulldogs were not suitable for catching poachers, because they dealt with their victims in a ferocious and brutal way. Mastiffs were strong and enduring, but not speedy enough for such assignments. In an effort to produce a hybrid that would combine the best qualities of both breeds, breeders crossed the two breeds.
Bull Mastiffs are large and strong dogs, measuring 23-27 inches tall at the shoulder and weighing 120-150 lbs on the average. These dogs have a short and smooth coat that comes in fawn, bindle, red, apricot, etc. There must be black markings around the nose and the eyes, forming a mask. Bull Mastiff Breeders continue to cultivate intelligence, restraint and communicativeness in their dogs, and they make superb family companions.
